KIEBITZ is an early, organic-farming-suitable chips potato variety from Norika breeding, characterized by stable quality and a flat sugar curve even during long storage. The tubers are round-oval, yellow flesh, with a netted yellow skin and medium-depth eyes. The variety is characterized by a very high processing yield and excellent storage properties right up to the new harvest. Kiebitz is suitable for growing in all soil types, and conditioning and pre-sprouting the seed potatoes before planting promotes sprout growth. Chemical seed treatment against rhizoctonia is recommended before planting. A pronounced dormancy period allows tubers to be stored cold (4°C) for a long time while maintaining excellent quality until the start of the new harvest. High resistance to leaf roll virus and medium resistance to the Y virus (PVY) help protect the seed material, while resistance to nematodes (Ro 1, Ro 4) and potato wart disease (pathotype 1 (D1)) reduces phytosanitary risk on organic farms. Low susceptibility to rhizoctonia and tuber rot, together with stable sugar content during long-term storage, makes Kiebitz an excellent choice for chips and dried potato product production, where consistent raw material uniformity throughout the season is important.
