BEO is an early, high-quality potato variety from Norika breeding, bred for chips production, characterized by a stable and low reducing sugar content and excellent frying color. The tubers are round-oval, with light yellow flesh, smooth to netted yellow skin, and shallow eyes. A long dormancy period ensures good storage quality throughout the season. Beo is suitable for cultivation in all soil types with regular irrigation, and conditioning and sprouting the seed potatoes before planting allows for an earlier harvest. Chemical seed treatment is recommended before planting for protection against Rhizoctonia. Due to low flesh blackening after boiling and stable sugar content, this variety is particularly well suited for processing into chips and dried potato products. High resistance to leaf roll virus and medium resistance to Y virus (PVY) help maintain healthy seed material, while resistance to nematodes (Ro 1, Ro 4) reduces phytosanitary risk when growing this variety on an industrial scale. Low susceptibility to Rhizoctonia and tuber rot, along with very low flesh blackening, ensure stable tuber quality throughout the storage period, making Beo a reliable choice for the processing industry, where consistent raw material uniformity is important. Country of origin: Germany.
